The carrrick knot is the base to build the stopping knot of a Dyneema shackle.

A bent over loop

One half of the loop threaded through the other one

The tail end is fed through the loop and dthe knot is tightened

A loop (half hitch) is made on one of the strands

One makes wraps inside the hitch

After 2,3 or 4 wraps one stops, pulls the loop tight on the shackle (not shown) and cuts the left over strand.
